Memory chip shortage alert: prepare for supply constraints and price hikes
Rotterdam, January 8, 2026. We want to alert our customers and partners about a growing global shortage of memory chips, including DRAM, DDR4/DDR5, NAND flash, and high-bandwidth memory (HBM). This shortage is driven by unprecedented demand from AI data centers and a shift in production priorities by major manufacturers.
What's happening?
- AI demand dominates: Tech giants are consuming vast quantities of advanced memory for AI
infrastructure, leaving less capacity for consumer and industrial products. - Production reallocation: Manufacturers are prioritizing high-margin memory types like HBM andDDR5, reducing output of DDR4 and NAND flash.
- Price surge: DRAM and NAND prices have already risen sharply, and further increases are expected throughout 2026.
Impact on you
Longer lead times and higher costs: Expect delays in delivery for memory-dependent products. Prices for PCs, servers, and embedded systems are likely to rise as component costs increase.
Our advice
Plan ahead for your memory requirements and discuss the available options we have. Secure orders early and consider alternative configurations where possible. We are actively working with suppliers to minimize disruption, but market conditions remain challenging.
