Control and automation in the maritime sector
Components and solutions for offshore companies and shipbuilders
Inland shipping, maritime transport, and the offshore industry form an important source of income for countries bordering the North Sea. It is no surprise that the Netherlands, with the port city of Rotterdam, and Belgium, with the port city of Antwerp, serve as innovation hubs for the maritime sector. Renowned shipyards, dredging companies, transport operators, and offshore industries are just a few examples of the many businesses active in this region.
The innovations and sustainable transitions taking place here are only possible through close collaboration with partners who possess the right expertise in specific technical fields. Together with other Batenburg Techniek companies, Batenburg Applied Technologies is committed to implementing smart technologies and systems that enable new processes or improve existing ones. We support the maritime manufacturing industry in developing systems with electronic components, design-in expertise, and prototyping capabilities.
Solutions that elevate the operator's workplace
Although more and more processes are digitally and automatically controlled, we continue to emphasize the importance of the human factor in the offshore and maritime industries. In a modern maritime working environment, where sensors, cameras, and information systems are increasingly integrated, it remains essential to keep the operator at the center of the design. Together with shipbuilders, we develop ergonomic HMI solutions that make the operator’s direct workspace more comfortable and easier to oversee.
The controllers and joysticks supplied by Batenburg Applied Technologies are the most well-known examples of this, but certainly not the only ones. From the end user’s perspective, we also design ergonomic and durable seat configurations. In doing so, we carefully consider the layout of control elements such as buttons, switches, and joysticks. Increasingly, we integrate touch display modules into the arm consoles of seats, giving operators quick access to relevant system information.
